Build Futures. Protect Youth.
The Unique Scholars Institute is looking for dedicated adults who are committed to safety, accountability, and the development of young people. Every role starts with trust — and trust starts with our Staff Safety Workshop.
Safety Is Not Optional
Every adult who works with youth through The Unique Scholars Institute must meet our screening standards and complete our Staff Safety Workshop Assessment before beginning youth-facing work.
Roles We Fill
We recruit for the following positions across all four program pillars.
Instructors & Coaches
Lead enrichment programs in reading, athletics, college prep, and mentorship for youth ages 4–24.
Mentors
Provide one-on-one guidance through The Beyond Breakfast Foundation mentorship program.
Volunteers
Support programming, events, and community engagement across all four pillars.
Program Support Staff
Assist with logistics, enrollment, and daily program operations.
Staff Safety Workshop Assessment
A rigorous, multi-module training and assessment that verifies your understanding of the institute's safety policies, conduct standards, emergency protocols, and communication expectations.
Safety Policies & Practices
Understand screening standards, youth protection, supervision, and reporting.
Staff Conduct & Boundaries
Learn professional boundaries, communication rules, and conduct expectations.
Emergency Response
Master emergency protocols for medical, weather, missing child, and security events.
Parent Trust & Communication
Build family confidence through consistent, transparent communication.
Scenario Evaluation
Apply judgment in realistic supervision, boundary, and escalation scenarios.
Final Assessment & Acknowledgment
Demonstrate readiness and sign your commitment to the institute's standards.
After Completing the Workshop
Passing the Staff Safety Workshop is just the beginning. Before you are cleared for youth-facing work, you must complete each of the following steps. Every requirement exists to protect the young people we serve.
HR Review & Clearance
Your workshop results, scores, and signed acknowledgment are reviewed by our HR team. You will receive clearance status once approved.
Certificate of Insurance
Provide proof of current liability insurance coverage. This protects you, the institute, and the youth we serve during all program activities.
Background Check Verification
Complete a comprehensive criminal background check through our accredited screening partner. Results must be received and approved before any youth-facing work begins.
Written Policies & Procedures
Review and acknowledge the institute's full written policies and procedures document. This covers conduct expectations, reporting protocols, supervision standards, and operational guidelines.
Staff Training Documentation
Submit documentation of all completed training — including safety, first aid, CPR, mandated reporting, and any role-specific certifications required for your position.
Reference Contacts from Partners
Provide at least two professional reference contacts from organizations, schools, or community partners you have worked with. References will be contacted and verified by our HR team.
Sample Partnership Agreement
Review and sign a sample partnership agreement that outlines your working relationship with the institute — including expectations, responsibilities, communication standards, and brand alignment.
Zoom Interview
Complete a scheduled Zoom interview with institute leadership. This is a conversation to confirm alignment with our mission, discuss your role, and answer any questions before final placement.
Workshop Certification
Upon completing all steps, you receive your official Staff Safety Workshop certification — documented and filed with the institute for your records.
Annual Renewal
All staff and volunteers must complete an annual renewal process to maintain active clearance. This includes updated background screening, policy acknowledgment, and continued training verification.
Every Step Is Mandatory
No staff member, volunteer, mentor, or contractor may begin youth-facing work until all post-workshop requirements have been completed, verified, and approved by institute leadership. There are no exceptions.
