Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment to Accessibility

The Unique Scholars Institute is committed to ensuring that our digital platform is accessible to all users, including people with disabilities. We design and test our website against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA technical standard.

Conformance Scope

Technical Standard

WCAG 2.1 Level AA as referenced by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Title II web accessibility rule for state and local government services and their contractors.

Coverage

This commitment applies to all public-facing web pages, forms, downloadable documents, and interactive features on theuniquescholars.institute, including content provided to partner schools and districts.

Ongoing Process

Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We regularly review and update our platform, train content authors, and incorporate user feedback to continuously improve the experience for all visitors.

Measures Taken

The following accessibility measures are implemented across the USI platform.

Keyboard Navigation

All interactive elements are reachable and operable via keyboard. Skip-navigation links allow users to bypass repetitive content.

Color Contrast

Text and interactive controls meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios. Meaning is never conveyed by color alone.

Semantic Structure

Pages use proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions, and ARIA attributes so assistive technologies can parse content accurately.

Focus Indicators

Visible focus states are provided on all interactive elements. Tab order follows logical document flow.

Reflow & Zoom

Content reflows at 320 CSS pixels wide without horizontal scrolling and remains usable at 400% browser zoom.

Mobile Accessibility

Touch targets meet minimum sizing requirements. Orientation is not locked. Content adapts responsively across devices.

Text Alternatives

All informative images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images are marked appropriately for screen readers to skip.

Forms & Error Handling

Every form input has a visible label. Validation errors are announced, linked to the relevant field, and clearly described.

Report an Accessibility Issue

We take accessibility feedback seriously. If you encounter a barrier on our platform, experience difficulty using any feature with assistive technology, or need content in an alternative format, please contact us.

When reporting, please include:

  • The page URL where the issue occurs
  • A description of the accessibility barrier
  • The assistive technology or browser you are using
  • Your preferred alternative format (if requesting content)

We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 2 business days and resolve issues as promptly as possible.
